Tuesday night Sept. 4th around 11pm Prentiss County deputies arrested Michael Smith age 36 of Rienzi and Nathan Williams 38 of Rienzi and charged them with Possession of Controlled substance. The duo was later charged with grand larceny. At the time of their arrest the truck they were traveling in was pulling a horse trailer containing other contents. They trailer and contents and other items in the back of the truck had just been stolen just off Cr 1101 a short distance from where they were stopped. All the stolen property and other physical evidence was recovered. This was some outstanding work on the part of the Patrol Deputies and Investigators during the follow up investigation.

Grand Larceny 08/31/2007
On Friday August 31 2007, The Prentiss County Sheriff's Office arrested Terry Holley age 32 0f Corinth and charged him with two counts of grand larceny. The charges stem from the theft of an International tractor from a work site and a 40 foot trailer from Jumpertown. These items were recovered at a residence and shop around the first of August in Prentiss County. Others items were recovered and additional charges will be presented to the next grand jury. As many as six to eight other crimes were solved as a result of this arrest. "This was good detective work on the part of Sammy Henderson who is the lead investigator in these cases. He has worked diligently with Tippah and Union Counties and solved crimes in both counties, recovering a Mack Truck and Four Wheeler. Bond has been set at $5,000. He remains in Jail." Additional charges and arrests are pending of other suspects.

RailRoad Theft foiled 08/13/2007
On Monday Night August 13th Deputy David Berrios arrested three individuals on charges of Grand Larceny. The arrests came after Berrios noticed suspicious activity near the railroad tracks. Charged were Wesley Spencer age 45, Danny Joe Spencer age 42 and Glenda Spencer age 45 all of Booneville. All the property was recovered. Investigators with the Kansas City Central Railroad will be assisting in the case.

Search warrant nets stolen property 07/31/2007
On the evening of Tuesday July 31 Investigators and Officers with the Prentiss County Sheriff's Office executed a Search Warrant at a house #9 CR 7031 and recovered numerous stolen items, including an International Tractor stolen June 19th from a work site in Prentiss County, a Mack Truck stolen from a Tippah County Logging site about a month ago, and a green Honda four wheeler. We are attempting to identify other items that are possibly stolen, located at the place we searched. We arrested James A Jackson age 35 of 9 CR 7031 Booneville and charged him with three counts of receiving stolen property. Bond has not been set at this time. Two other individuals are being sought at this time in connection with the case. Investigators have been working diligently on this case since the tractors theft in June. The other recovered property was extras that we weren't counting on. The Booneville Police Department and the Tippah County Sheriff's Office assisted in the case.

Manslaughter 07/30/2007
On Sat. morning at 2:45am a call came in to the Prentiss County Sheriff Department, Officers responded and found that an individual had been run over by an automobile. Officers determined that Shane Steen age 24 of CR 8470 Rienzi was the individual that was the victim of the incident.
Investigating Officers also determined that the driver of the vehicle was Benjamin Maldonado Jr age 26 of Cr 8401. He had fled the scene and was arrested hours later by Deputies. He was charged with Manslaughter, Culpable Negligence. His was set by Judge Billy Sartin at $250,000. He is presently free on bond. This case will be presented to the October Grand Jury and the charges possibly upgraded at that time or additional charges may be forthcoming..
Soon after the case began we consulted the District Attorney's Office and kept them updated on the progress of the case and they suggested we initially charge the suspect with the manslaughter charge, which could be upgraded once the case is presented to the Grand Jury.
Investigating Officers did a commendable job in working the case.
The suspect vehicle (a Cadillac Escalade) was seized and will be set to Batesville to the Crime Lab for examination and gathering of any evidence.

Undercover narcotics operation nets multipe Arrest
The Prentiss County Sheriff's Office in cooperation with the Lee County Sheriff's Office, North Ms Narcotics, the Bureau of Narcotics began arresting suspects in a undercover narcotics operation this week that focused on the Baldwyn area. A total of eleven individuals were arrested and charged with charges ranging from possession of controlled substance with intent to sell or distribute to actual undercover sales to undercover narcotics officers. Six of the suspects were arrested on the Prentiss County side and two on the Lee County side.
Another individual, Charles Bell age 21 of Booneville was arrested on charges stemming from his possession of a sizable quantity, over twenty grams, of crack cocaine while in the Booneville area.
The Prentiss County Suspects were as Follows:
Courtney Beene age 25 of 17 CR 1721 Baldwyn Charged with sale of controlled substance her bond was set at $5,000
Kimberly Shane Hancock age 35 48 CR 6105 Baldwyn charged with sale of controlled substance her bond was set at $10,000
James Oneal Nabors age 21 of 116 Bush Street Baldwyn charged with two counts of sale of controlled substance his bond was set at $10,000
Angela Lynette Beene age 32 of 543 Dennis Drive Baldwyn charged with two counts of sale of controlled substance her bond was set at $10,000
Tony Kent Anderson age 44 608 MLK Baldwyn charged with two counts of sale of controlled substance his bond set at $10,000
Teylar Stewart age 22 417 East Street Baldwyn charged with sale of controlled substance his bond has not been set.
I'm am pleased with the outcome of this operation. Our narcotics officers worked very hard establishing the information and working these cases.
The operation began over six months ago and has been a great success. The possible will be other arrest in the near future. I appreciate Sheriff Johnson and Commander Chuck Bunn of the North Ms Narcotics Unit and Agents with the Bureau of Narcotics because without the team effort most of this would not have been possible. Being a member of North Ms Narcotics unit is a valuable asset to Prentiss County. The unit funds the salary of our Narcotics Officer, supplies him with a vehicle and all his equipment and all the buy money he can spend. This is something that would not be possible for us alone because of lack of funding. Some criticism has been expressed concerning the assets we seize going to the narcotics unit, but studies have shown that we can more greatly benefit from cooperating as a team rather than going it on our own, therefore drawing off all the resources of numerous agencies across North East Mississippi. It's a win, win situation.

Feleny Pursuits
On Monday morning July 16th at just after midnight Prentiss County Deputies arrested Samuel Thomas English on Felony charges of Felony fleeing and Burglary. The incident started when English was observed running a stop sign at a high rate of speed. The suspect refused to stop for the officer. Numerous other officers joined the pursuit. After several minutes English was stopped and taken into custody. The burglary charge stemmed from the recovery of items that had been stolen. The victim in the case did not even realize the incident had occurred until contacted by Officers. English is being held in custody without bond at this point.
He was on probation at the time of his arrest and a hold has been placed on him by Mississippi Department of Corrections. This was a great job on the part of all the Deputies and Officers involved. And it goes to show how a situation can progress from a simple traffic violation into felony charges and the solving of other crimes. If the Deputies had not followed up on the suspicious property and identified the items, he might have gotten away with it.

Recovered Body Identified 07/02/2007
The body that was found in Prentiss County Monday July 2nd has been identified as Pamela S Dailey age 28. Dailey had been living in Ill. but had moved to Prentiss County about a year ago. She was living in Franstown area, a mile or so from where her body was discovered. "We were hoping to identify her by means of fingerprints, but when that was unsuccessful, I released descriptions of numerous tattoos that were on her body. Immediately after the news aired, calls started coming in and thus enabling us to id her." "I greatly appreciate all the calls and leads that were called in." "The body was taken to Jackson to the State Pathologist Office by Coroner James Horn and an Investigator with the Prentiss County Sheriff's Office. At this point the pathologist can't give us 'a cause of death' that something that will have to be determined before any charges can be filed on anyone. We are presently waiting on the toxicology report which could take up to two weeks or more to get back." Investigators with the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol, the Prentiss County Sheriff Department and the Prentiss County Coroner are conducting the investigation. The State's Crime Lab Team came to Prentiss County and thoroughly examined the scene. Numerous pieces of evidence have been collected and seized by Investigating Officers and turned over to the State Crime Lab. Hopefully, we can bring this matter to some sort of a conclusion in the near future. Everyone did and outstanding job and properly secured the scene and all evidence, making for a great job." We did have an individual of interest in custody, but no charges were filed pending a determination of the cause of death.

Search Warrant finds 20 rocks of CRACK and Firearms 06/22/2007
Prentiss County Investigators and Deputies executed a search warrant on 6/22/07 at 64 CR 6010 Baldwyn. Officers Found approximately 20 rocks crack cocaine and 4 firearms, seized $303.00 in cash. The individual arrested was charged with possession of crack cocaine with intent to sell enhanced with firearm and possession of firearm by a felon. Bond set at $25,000 for possession of cocaine with intent no bond has been set at this time for possession of weapon by felon. The suspect remains in jail. " This was an individual that we have been focusing on sometime now and it finally came together. The Officers did an outstanding job." North MS Narcotics assisted in the case.

7 grams of ICE - Methamphetamine Seized 06/18/2007
Friday night Prentiss County Reserve Deputy Grady Smith arrested David Hall Age 45 of Wheeler at his home. Deputy Smith arrested Hall an outstanding Circuit Court Capias. Smith discovered several approx. 7 grams of ICE - Methamphetamine when he search Hall. That amount had a street value of about $700. Once he had Hall in custody, Narcotics Investigator Joey Clark was contacted and a search warrant was obtained. During the search of the shop and residence, Smith discovered almost a pound of ICE with a street value of Approx. $38,000. The ICE was found hidden is a barbeque grill on the premises. Officers was surprised to see this quality. This is the largest amount of methamphetamine every seized in Prentiss County. This made a significant dent in the Drug Trafficking in Prentiss County. Hall had been under investigation for some time now.
In addition to the drugs, a stolen pistol from Booneville and almost $4,000 cash was seized. Numerous other Officers assisted in the case. I am so thrilled that this investigation netted such a find and proud of the Officers and their fine job. Hall was out on bond on numerous other charges, prior to this arrest, therefore bond has been denied. This is a major player, who has prior drug convictions.
Also arrested was Kim West of Baldwyn, whose bond was set at $25,000. Both were charged with Possession of Controlled substance with intent to distribute.

May Busy month for Felony arrest
Over the past week or two the Prentiss County Sheriff's Office has arrested 4 different suspects on Felony charges. Arrested on May 17th, 2007 was Wesley Wheeler W/M DOB: 07-15-79 of 100 CR 8120 Rienzi, MS, on the charge of Felony Leaving the Scene of an Accident. This arrest stems from a two vehicle accident which occurred on Cr 5031 at approximately 8:00 PM on the 17th. Wheeler allegedly was the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the crash and he apparently left the scene on foot after the accident. Wheeler was found about 30 minutes after the accident walking on a nearby county road and was transported to the ER at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville where he was treated and released for minor injuries. He was then taking to the Prentiss County Jail and held for Investigators. Two of the occupants in the other vehicle were in juried and one of them having a broken back. Deputy Tommy Davis is the officer who worked the accident and arrested Wheeler. Since the injuries in the accident were or could have been life altering to the victims and also the fact that Wheeler left the scene and failed to remain there until help could get to them he is in violation of the law. He was charged with this crime and also with several other misdemeanor charges. He was also on probation with the MS Department of Corrections and is being held for them until a probation hearing is set up. Since the accident both of the injured subjects have been released from the hospital. Bond was set for Wheeler at $5,000.00.
In another separate unrelated case, Robin L. Hamby W/F DOB: 11-20-1972 of Hwy 4East Booneville, MS, was arrested on May 19th, 2007 for the charge of Burglary of a Dwelling House. This arrest stems from a report filed by a CR 3020 resident who stated that on April 3rd, 2007, Hamby gained entry into his house and stole his wallet that contained approximately $450.00 cash in it. Hamby was processed and was set a bond of $1,000.00. She is currently out on bond.

Arrested were David Shannon Clingan W/M DOB: 02-07-1979 of 164 CR 265 Tishomingo, MS and a Chasity R. Rodgers W/F DOB: 05-15-1981 of the same address. These arrest stems from a report filed by the owner of Mike's Place Resturant and Convince Store which is located on Hwy 30 East in the Burton area, who stated that someone had gained entry to his store and stolen a money bag that contained approximately $500.00 cash. After reviewing the camera's at the business the suspects description was passed along to the Sheriff and his Investigators and they began to look for Clingan. The search went all over Prentiss, Lee, and Tishomingo Counties and eventually with the assistance of two Guntown Police Department Officers, Chief Tommy Crouch and Officer Kurt Olson, Clingan and Rodgers were taken into custody at Rodgers sisters residence in Guntown. After a brief investigation, the clothing that the suspect that entered the store was recovered in a gar barge can located at a nearby lake to where the suspects were arrested. ( Lake Lamar Bruce in the Saltillo Community) A portion of the money was recovered from the suspects. Rodgers was set and bond and is currently out on it. The bond was set at $10,000.00. Clingan is still currently in jail with a $25,000.00 bond. He is being held for the MDOC for a probation violation hearing. A special thanks goes out to Chief Crouch and Officer Olson of the Guntown PD for there help is apprehending these two suspects. "In latter case the owner of the business played a big part in helping us with a led to start the case, then the diligent efforts of the Investigators and other Officers assisting in the case, help tremdusly in bringing the case to a quick end. I always stress cooperation and communication when it comes to crime. This is proof that hard work pays off." "I commend all those involved with investigating the case and those people from the public sector that assisted by providing information to investigators that led to the suspects arrest.
