Apparently, the home owners came home unexpectedly and surprised the suspects while still in the act. The fled into the woods and actually became lost in the darkness. While the Officers were still at the residence investigating the crimes they noticed a suspicious vehicle traveling up and down the road blowing the horn. Patrol deputies stopped the individual and took him into custody after they found his story unbelievable. While he was in custody Officers began searching telephone records and determined who he had been conversing with while driving up and down the road. Eventually, Jimmy Grimes 42 of Burnsville was taken into custody and charged with Burglary and Larceny of a residence. Some of the guns were found near the scene of the crime, the remaining guns remain un-recovered at this time, but Investigators are still following up leads. Friday 9/5/2008 Investigators executed a search warrant at a New
Site residence and arrested Stanley Johnson age 46 of New Site. He was charged with Burglary and Larceny. Both mens bond was set at $20,000. This is one of those case that there were good leads that provided us with a direction to follow up and the investigators and officers did an outstanding job handling the case.

Sheriff Randy M. On July 13th Officers arrested Carl Douglas Eaton age 28 of Rienzi. Eaton was charged with attempted burglary of a dwelling after a home owner identified him after he attempted to burglarize his home on CR 1251. The victim gave a description of the suspects vehicle and shortly thereafter Deputies Tammy Johnson and Derrick Hester arrested the suspect after Deputy Johnson
spotted the vehicle and made a traffic stop. Eatons bond was set at $10,000. he remains in custody.

On 07/14 Deputies arrested Douglas Michael Jackson age 44 of Booneville and his brother Toy David Jackson also of Booneville age 50 and charged them with burglary of a dwelling. There bonds were set at $10,000 each. The arrests resulted from the burglary of a residence on HWY 4 East. Both have been released on bond.

"Both of the above arrested stemmed from tips from individuals or the actual property owners. It is important that credit be given where credit is due. It is so much easier when we investigate a case, when we have people that are willing to come forward and get involved. The operation was being conducted at the residence of Jamie Trimble, located at 49 cr 3161 Booneville, MS. Deputies arrested and charged a total of 19 individuals with charges ranging from being a spectator at a dog fight to organizing a dog fight, which both are felonies. Several of the individuals arrested were currently on probation or parole from the MS Dept of Corrections. Deputies were able to execute the search warrant during an actual fight. There were 4 pit bulldogs seized along with $10,000 cash, a four wheeler, several vehicles, a firearm, and other dog fighting related equipment. The fighting pit for the operation was a well built 20 x 20 ft portable device that could be moved to other locations. The fight being held was well organized and brought people from surrounding counties in to watch. Bond for Jamie Trimble was set at $10,000. The others arrested each have a $5,000 bond. Feb 2, 2008 Prentiss County Authorities became involved in pursuit with an individual wanted by the Mississippi Department of Corrections. The individual was Scotty Davis age 24 of 99 CR 8240 Rienzi. He was wanted by MDOC for violations of the conditions of his parole. Deputies spotted Davis and a female passenger on CR 8261 around noon Saturday. The pursuit led into Alcorn County where Davis eventually abandoned the vehicle and fled into the woods. He was later arrested by Alcorn County Authorities and returned to Prentiss County on the 4th. He faces additional felony charges of felony fleeing. No bond has been set because of the MDOC hold. Alcorn County Sheriff and Deputies assisted in the apprehension of Davis.

More arrests have been made in the ongoing Drug investigation that had already netted 11 arrests. Prentiss County Deputies arrested four individuals after a traffic stop on CR 7031. One of the previously arrested individuals, Dorsie NcNutt age 24 0f Burnsville was arrested again, in addition to Edward Grissom age 24 of 68 Cr 8361 Rienzi, Carissa Sasso age 22 of 35 CR 7149 Booneville and Scotty Fleming age 33 of 1811 CR 633 Booneville. All four were charged with Possession of Precursors, Chemicals or drugs with the intent to manufacture a controlled substance. All but NcNutt are free on bond.

This is continuing example of our aggressive drug enforcement efforts, highlighting the great initiative of all those involved and embracing a spirit of cooperation with multiple agencies and departments. The duo was later charged with grand larceny. At the time of their arrest the truck they were traveling in was pulling a horse trailer containing other contents. These items were recovered at a residence and shop around the first of August in Prentiss County. Others items were recovered and additional charges will be presented to the next grand jury. As many as six to eight other crimes were solved as a result of this arrest. "This was good detective work on the part of Sammy Henderson who is the lead investigator in these cases. We are attempting to identify other items that are possibly stolen, located at the place we searched. We arrested James A Jackson age 35 of 9 CR 7031 Booneville and charged him with three counts of receiving stolen property. Bond has not been set at this time. Two other individuals are being sought at this time in connection with the case. Investigators have been working diligently on this case since the tractors theft in June. Officers determined that Shane Steen age 24 of CR 8470 Rienzi was the individual that was the victim of the incident.
Investigating Officers also determined that the driver of the vehicle was Benjamin Maldonado Jr age 26 of Cr 8401. He had fled the scene and was arrested hours later by Deputies. He was charged with Manslaughter, Culpable Negligence. His was set by Judge Billy Sartin at $250,000. He is presently free on bond. This case will be presented to the October Grand Jury and the charges possibly upgraded at that time or additional charges may be forthcoming..
Soon after the case began we consulted the District Attorney's Office and kept them updated on the progress of the case and they suggested we initially charge the suspect with the manslaughter charge, which could be upgraded once the case is presented to the Grand Jury.
Investigating Officers did a commendable job in working the case.
The suspect vehicle (a Cadillac Escalade) was seized and will be set to Batesville to the Crime Lab for examination and gathering of any evidence.

Sheriff Randy M. A total of eleven individuals were arrested and charged with charges ranging from possession of controlled substance with intent to sell or distribute to actual undercover sales to undercover narcotics officers. Six of the suspects were arrested on the Prentiss County side and two on the Lee County side.

Another individual, Charles Bell age 21 of Booneville was arrested on charges stemming from his possession of a sizable quantity, over twenty grams, of crack cocaine while in the Booneville area.

The Prentiss County Suspects were as Follows:

Courtney Beene age 25 of 17 CR 1721 Baldwyn Charged with sale of controlled substance her bond was set at $5,000

Kimberly Shane Hancock age 35 48 CR 6105 Baldwyn charged with sale of controlled substance her bond was set at $10,000

James Oneal Nabors age 21 of 116 Bush Street Baldwyn charged with two counts of sale of controlled substance his bond was set at $10,000

Angela Lynette Beene age 32 of 543 Dennis Drive Baldwyn charged with two counts of sale of controlled substance her bond was set at $10,000

Tony Kent Anderson age 44 608 MLK Baldwyn charged with two counts of sale of controlled substance his bond set at $10,000

Teylar Stewart age 22 417 East Street Baldwyn charged with sale of controlled substance his bond has not been set.

I'm am pleased with the outcome of this operation. Our narcotics officers worked very hard establishing the information and working these cases.
The operation began over six months ago and has been a great success. The possible will be other arrest in the near future. I appreciate Sheriff Johnson and Commander Chuck Bunn of the North Ms Narcotics Unit and Agents with the Bureau of Narcotics because without the team effort most of this would not have been possible. Being a member of North Ms Narcotics unit is a valuable asset to Prentiss County. The unit funds the salary of our Narcotics Officer, supplies him with a vehicle and all his equipment and all the buy money he can spend. This is something that would not be possible for us alone because of lack of funding. Some criticism has been expressed concerning the assets we seize going to the narcotics unit, but studies have shown that we can more greatly benefit from cooperating as a team rather than going it on our own, therefore drawing off all the resources of numerous agencies across North East Mississippi. It's a win, win situation.

Sheriff Randy M. The incident started when English was observed running a stop sign at a high rate of speed. The suspect refused to stop for the officer. Numerous other officers joined the pursuit. After several minutes English was stopped and taken into custody. The burglary charge stemmed from the recovery of items that had been stolen. The victim in the case did not even realize the incident had occurred until contacted by Officers. English is being held in custody without bond at this point.

He was on probation at the time of his arrest and a hold has been placed on him by Mississippi Department of Corrections. This was a great job on the part of all the Deputies and Officers involved. And it goes to show how a situation can progress from a simple traffic violation into felony charges and the solving of other crimes. If the Deputies had not followed up on the suspicious property and identified the items, he might have gotten away with it.

Sheriff Randy M. Dailey had been living in Ill. but had moved to Prentiss County about a year ago. She was living in Franstown area, a mile or so from where her body was discovered. "We were hoping to identify her by means of fingerprints, but when that was unsuccessful, I released descriptions of numerous tattoos that were on her body. Immediately after the news aired, calls started coming in and thus enabling us to id her." "I greatly appreciate all the calls and leads that were called in." "The body was taken to Jackson to the State Pathologist Office by Coroner James Horn and an Investigator with the Prentiss County Sheriff's Office. At this point the pathologist can't give us 'a cause of death' that something that will have to be determined before any charges can be filed on anyone. We are presently waiting on the toxicology report which could take up to two weeks or more to get back." Investigators with the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol, the Prentiss County Sheriff Department and the Prentiss County Coroner are conducting the investigation. The State's Crime Lab Team came to Prentiss County and thoroughly examined the scene. Numerous pieces of evidence have been collected and seized by Investigating Officers and turned over to the State Crime Lab. Hopefully, we can bring this matter to some sort of a conclusion in the near future. Everyone did and outstanding job and properly secured the scene and all evidence, making for a great job." We did have an individual of interest in custody, but no charges were filed pending a determination of the cause of death.
Sheriff Randy M.
